How your Airbrush Tan is cared for is just as important as the quality of the application. There are several key steps to follow as you prepare for your tan. Once your tan has been applied, it is just as essential to follow the proper maintenance program. Contact your Beach Bum Sunless Specialist for product suggestions.

In order to achieve the best results with your Airbrush Tan, please follow the guidelines below prior to your visit.

Shower:Recommended with a natural, non-moisturizing soap. Do not use bar soap or anything similar as it can strip and fade your Airbrush Tan.
Exfoliate:This process will remove dead cells from the skin’s surface to help in the renewal process. We suggest a product that is designed specifically for sunless tanning. Clean and balanced skin tones tan best.
Shaving/Waxing:Any regular waxing or shaving should be done at least 24 hours in advance.
Cosmetics:To ensure optimal color, please AVOID the following: Makeup, perfume, cologne, lotions & deodorants.
Clothing:Please arrive in dark, loose-fitting clothing. Wear open toe shoes when weather permits. If the weather is inclement, wear long sleeves, pants, socks, shoes and bring an umbrella.

For optimal results, we offer pre and post care for our Airbrush Tanning. All of our Salons offer Glycolic Toner that your Airbrush Artist will apply before your Airbrush Tanning solution for only $10. This will properly balance skin tones to prepare your skin for the best tan possible. *NJ State Law requires that undergarments be worn during an Airbrush Tanning session.

FDA Guidelines: FDA recommends the use of nose plugs, eyewear and lip balm during every Airbrush Tanning session which are available at your local Beach Bum Tanning salon. We provide our guests with disposable undergarments to wear during the Airbrush Tanning session. If wearing your own, we do recommend something strapless. All of our salons offer post care Moisture Lock for only $10. This will lock in your tan to help extend its longevity. Our Salons utilize an Extraction Booth to eliminate the excess over-spray of solution from the surrounding air. *NJ State Law requires that undergarments be worn during an Airbrush Session.

Post Care Instructions: In order to achieve the best results possible with your Airbrush Tan, please follow the guidelines below after your visit. For optimal results, we offer pre and post care for our Airbrush Tanning.

First Shower: Wait 6-8 hours before showering. This time frame is optimal and you should not wait longer than this, as the color can overdevelop. The first shower should be done using a quick rinse with lukewarm water only to remove any excess solution. Avoid exercising or any activity that may cause sweating prior to your first shower.
Second Shower: Shower should be taken on the following day using a sulfate-free product. For best results, we recommend not sleeping in your Airbrush solution when possible. Residual sweating may occur, which can fade your sunless unevenly or prematurely.
Drying: After your shower, gently pat dry or air dry. DO NOT exfoliate or rub your skin with a towel.
Moisturize: Moisturizing is a vital step in extending the life of your Airbrush Tan. DO not use lotions containing mineral oil or fragrances.
Shaving: Any shaving should be done with at least a three-blade razor is a downward motion. All shaving creams and gels should be replaced with an extremely light and natural non-alcohol based substitute.
Skin Care: No toners, astringents, salicylic acid, benzyl peroxide or sulfate products should be used.
Perfumes: May be applied to either clothing or hair. Do not spray directly on your skin.
Avoid Chlorine: Swimming pools, and hot tubs can remove the color and shorten the life of your Airbrush Tan.
Gratuities: For Airbrush Tanning, our Artists are providing a customized service and if you are happy with your personalized service, a gratuity of 18-20% is customary.
Water: Drink lots of water. The more hydrated you are, the longer your tan will last. *When using our Shower-in-an-Hour solution for Airbrush Tanning, your Artist will suggest the time frame in when to shower by. This will be between 1-3 hours. It is vital that just a rinse is taken and color will show up after an additional 4-6 hours.

Important facts to know about your Airbrush Tanning Experience

Your Airbrush Tan will last between 5 to 7 days when properly maintained.
Make sure not to touch your Airbrush Tan with the palms of your hands prior to your first water rinse. The active ingredient may cause color transfer to your palms. If this should happen, gently rinse the palm of your hand with the lukewarm water to remove any undesired color.
Airbrush Tanning is not an exact science and if you are not happy with your results, you must call or come into the salon within 24 hours so that the Customer Service Representative can remedy any imperfections or discoloration.
An adult must accompany anyone under 14 years of age during his or her session.
*NJ Law prohibits Minors under the age of 14 from Airbrush Tanning
Anyone who has had a recent surgical procedure should speak to their physician prior to their Airbrush Session.

No matter how much we moisturize and exfoliate our skin, normal, dry and oily patches will get in the way of a balanced Airbrush Tan. Your Airbrush Artist will apply Toner prior to your airbrush tanning solution. Application of this proprietary Toner will properly balance skin tones to prepare your skin for the best tan possible.

MOISTURE LOCK

Our skin flakes off on a daily basis as our body’s way of removing dead skin cells to replace them with healthy, new cells. Keeping skin moist and hydrated will slow down this process and thus prolong the life of your tan. Our Airbrush Artist can apply our specially formulated Moisture Lock solution immediately after your Airbrush tan is applied. This will lock in your tan to help extend its longevity.

SHOWER-IN-AN-HOUR

Your days are busy and we know that! Sometimes you cannot wait 6-8 hours to shower after an Airbrush Tan. For that "On The Go Tan", we have created the perfect formulation with our Shower-in-an-Hour Airbrush solution. With Shower-in-a-Hour, you can shower in as little as 60 minutes after application and still have that great Beach Bum Airbrush Tan.

When using our Shower-in-a-Hour solution for Airbrush Tanning, your Artist will suggest the time frame in when to shower by. This will be between 1 and 3 hours. It is vital that just a rinse is taken and color will show up after an additional 4 to 6 hours.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Sunless spray tanning, also known as “UV free tanning”, is the spray/mist application of sunless tanning solution to the body to produce an effect similar in appearance to a suntan. There are several ingredients within sunless tanning solutions, however the active ingredient DHA, reacts with the complex proteins in the skins outer layer to produce a rich golden color. Your sunless tan begins to develop 2-3 hours after application, and reaches it’s peak color within 6 hours. This color will gradually fade through the exfoliation process, and the natural shedding of dead skin cells just like a natural tan from the sun.

Showering and exfoliating the day of your sunless spray tan is vital in the application and development process. Shaving or waxing should be done at least 6 hours in advance to prevent skin irritation. For optimal results, exfoliating with a loofa and one of Beach Bum’s exfoliating products will ensure an even spray tan/even fade. Makeup, perfume, lotion or deodorant should not be applied before your sunless spray tan. These products may form a barrier between the sunless tanning solution and your skin. Beach Bum Tanning has also developed a glycolic toner, which can be applied before your sunless tan to remove dead skin cells. This will ensure your pores are clean and prepped for your spray tan.

To give your spray tan enough time to fully develop, we recommend waiting a minimum of 6 hours after a sunless spray tan to take your first shower. Your first shower should consist of a lukewarm to cool water rinse only. During this water rinse you will see the color guide or “cosmetic bronzer” come off during this rinse. Don’t be alarmed! Removing excess sunless solution is a normal occurrence during this water rinse. After this water rinse is complete, clients should air or pat dry gently and moisturize well with one of the suggested moisturizers we carry at Beach Bum Tanning. Many store bought moisturizers include heavy fragrances. In order to fragrance a product, certain amounts of alcohol need to be added, which may shorten the life of your spray tan.

Not at all! Before sunless spray tanning most self-tanners were creams and lotions applied by hand that contained preservatives and ingredients when combined would often look heavy and orange. The technology and science behind sunless tanning solutions have made great strides. With Beach Bum Tanning’s organic sunless solution we strive to give every client the most natural and customized skin specific color. Customized airbrush tanning is a spray tan performed by a trained Beach Bum airbrush technician utilizing our organic, paraben, and gluten free sunless tanning solution. Our technicians are trained to mix over 150 possible color combinations to give you the most natural looking, skin specific sunless tan. This process usually takes approximately 15-20 minutes from start to finish including drying time. Our sunless spray booth, the Versa-Spa Pro is an economical quick and easy sunless option that does not require a trained technician. The booth is guided by computer voice instructions in the privacy of a spacious sunless chamber. The Versa-Spa Pro has multiple color options for all your sunless tanning needs and only takes approximately 5 minutes from start to finish including drying time.

Beach Bum’s sunless tanning formulas are completely water-soluble. Clients may notice some initial cosmetic bronzers on the inside of their clothing, but this color will wash out in cold water. However, we suggest bringing in dark, loose fitting clothing, to change into after your sunless spray session. After your first shower and the color guide is washed off thoroughly, color transfer should not occur.

At Beach Bum Tanning we carry an assortment of take home products that have been created and developed to enhance and extend your sunless spray tanning results. Products purchased outside of Beach Bum Tanning locations may not be compatible with our sunless tanning formulas. These products may block the spray tan application and impede the development process, or possibly create an uneven post tan fading, and cut short the life of your sunless spray tan. Beach Bum has many different solution formulations that will camouflage problematic areas such as stretch marks, hyperpigmentation, and acne scars. Using micro mirror technology, this revolutionary product acts more like body makeup than actually tanning your skin. We’ve added silicone emulsions and natural oils to balance and restore dry and uneven skin tones, leaving you with a perfect glowing complexion.

Toner and Moisture Lock are the fastest and easiest way to ensure you get the most out of your Sunless Tan. Our Glycolic Toner is a combination of a natural skin cleansing and skin tightening witch hazel base, with added glycerin properties to break down dead skin cells. It is vital when your sunless tan is applied to have completely fresh skin, with no dry areas, so that when your sunless tan finally does fade, it does so evenly and subtly. Think of toner as a fast and inexpensive mini body peel, it also helps to prevent ingrown hairs and tighten problem skin areas, revealing your newest and truest skin. Although proper exfoliation may have been done at home, your pores fill with sweat and dirt in a very short amount of time. Removing this will ensure maximum absorption of the sunless solution, ensuring not only that your color lasts, but also that you will look and feel absolutely amazing! “Double Dipping” is the quintessential perfect tan. It is a combination of a UV tan and a sunless spray tan. Many of our clients will tan in a UV booth to help build a base tan while still maintaining that perfect glow from a sunless spray tan.
